Four Year Old (4K)

Our five day per week four-year old class encourages the development of readiness skills through monthly themes which include such activities as simple science experiments, hands on exploration, mathematics manipulatives, and free-form art.  In addition to the integration of the English alphabet into various subject areas, the Spanish alphabet is also used to introduce concrete phonics as children begin their association with spoken and written language.  The utilization of storytelling and language activities provides more foundation for emerging literacy skills.

Developmentally appropriate activities based on the HighReach curriculum are used to teach the skills and concepts of sequencing, opposites, problem solving, estimation, positional concepts, alphabets, and numbers.  We also have fun with our arts and crafts that enrich our monthly units.  Past monthly capstone projects have included making and flying airplanes, making penguin costumes and participating in the March of Penquins, creating a classroom cave, making the wings and proboscis of the Monarch butterfly and participating in their migratory path through the Americas!

Field trip favorites are the strawberry farm, the plant farm and the pizza kitchen.
