Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K)
The Pre-Kindergarten class is designed for older four-year-olds and five-year-olds whose parents realize that their student can profit over the remaining fourteen years of primary and secondary education from an extra year in which to develop and mature. Avoiding the “Rushed Child”, the student can develop more completely socially, academically, and physically before beginning Kindergarten.
The Pre-K class utilizes part of the HighReach Learning Kindergarten curriculum. The children are exposed to whole language and phonics methods of reading readiness skills. Manipulative and hands-on activities in math are provided for learning and mastering measurements, patterns, number recognition, money, time, addition, and problem-solving. Monthly thematic units such as nutrition are incorporated into the curriculum.
The social studies component companions with the year’s (Kindermusik) theme of Around the World. The materials used for this class incorporate musical, cultural, and geographical facts about each featured country. The Science component of the Pre-K adds to this focus with the study of the Earth and its climates and habitats. As with all classes, Spanish, music (Kindermusik), library skills, and physical education supplement the curriculum.
Please note also that the 3K class meets Monday-Friday, 8-2:45 or M-W-F, 8-2:45. The 4K, PreK (young 5′s) and Kindergarten classes meet Monday-Friday, 8-2:45 (3:00 dismissal for kindergarten). The Kindergarten classes meet Monday-Friday, 8:00-3:00 pm.
