Welcome
Every person a teacher
Every corner a classroom
Every experience a lesson
Every student our focus.
Welcome to Wayne Country Day Lower School. Our core curriculum is based on a sequential presentation of skills at each grade level reflecting national educational standards. The experienced, well qualified teachers are committed to the children and their families with the primary goal of fostering an enthusiasm for learning. Recognizing all children are different, as our teachers strive to meet individual learning styles while challenging each student to reach his/her potential.
In addition to the Lower School’s core curriculum, there are also co-curricular offerings. The students have physical education daily with certified physical education teachers. Spanish instruction, begun in the Early Years, continues. Students take art in the pottery studio and receive music instruction on a revolving schedule. All students continue to use the Orff-Schuwerk approach begun in our Early Years program. The guidance counselor (character development/study skills) meets with all grades. Small group sessions as well as one on one sessions are available.
Tutoring by the classroom teacher is available to any student requiring extra help at the end of the day (Monday – Friday). All classroom teachers remain in their classrooms until 3:45 every day to help students in their studies. Students are encouraged to stay for this tutoring when needed.
When a little extra help here and there does not work, and for an additional fee, specialized tutoring is available in the Learning Center. Our learning specialists work closely with the classroom teachers to ensure successful learning for each child.
