Overview

Wayne Country Day School was founded in 1968 as an independent, co-educational day school.    A fully-accredited member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools, Wayne Country Day School serves a diverse population in a community of military, manufacturing, agricultural, and service employers.

From the day its doors opened, Wayne Country Day School has embraced a philosophy of education that asserts the importance and uniqueness of the individual student. With a strong belief in its mission to challenge and encourage students to commit themselves to excellence in preparation for college and the ever shrinking world, the school has provided for its students many special avenues of success in a structured and caring environment.  Wayne Country Day School strives to make a positive difference in each student’s education.

Wayne Country Day School has a current enrollment of 250 students from throughout a multi-community area. The enrollment is diverse (one fifth of the student body is non-Caucasian), with one fourth of its students receiving some type of financial aid.

The school includes the following:

  • Upper School – Grades seven through twelve
  • Lower School – Grades one through six
  • Preschool – Grades 3 K through Kindergarten

The school is situated on a 40 acre campus which includes a main building containing 20 classrooms, an art room, two science labs, a media center, Lower School and Upper School counselor offices, administrative offices, and a maintenance area.  Additional buildings include a gymnasium equipped with a new sound system and new air-conditioning units; a loft lunchroom and weight room; a Pre-school building ; a music building; a math lab; and an outdoor art studio.  Four newly furbished sports fields, student-maintained garden and outdoor seating areas, student and faculty parking lots, and a circular student drop-off/pick-up area complete the campus.
